  1. The advertisement of Land Rover, it uses a weird and strange “food picture” to catch people’s eyes. Land Rover is a company known for cars but in this advertisement, they are using strange foods to use as an example the many cultures one can counter when taking adventures in your car.
Because this food is hybrid of common food, but it shows uncommon traits. It is common to eat eyeball in Namibian culture, yet it is not common in American culture. It perceives like a monster.

” they are disturbing hybirds whose externally incoherent bodies resist attempts to include them in any systematic structuration ….(Cohen 6)
the image is monstrous because it seems like normal food combined with unknown, uncooked eyes. and anyone who want to eat this can be defined as “monster”.

The central image of the Land Rover advertising is “monstrous.” Cohen defines something being monsterous as something that oversteps “boundaries between personal and national bodies” (10). We are not familiar with the dish so it is nationally different so we are disgusted by it. So we treat something different as monsterous.

  4. According to the Cohen’s writing “ Thesis III : THE MONSTER is the harbinger of category crisis” stated “they are disturbing hybrids whose externally incoherent bodies resist attempts to include them in any systemic structuration” (6). Because the monster cannot be assigned to a specific classification. In this picture “Land Rover Ad” something on the dish looks like the eyeballs and the blood. Because the dish is an ordinary item that create connection between the picture and our life, but what is in the dish creates an image of eyeballs and blood. Therefore, this picture is not fully ordinary nor unfamiliar to us.
